 “We are getting immigration under control,” Prime Minister Mark Carney told a room of students at the University of Ottawa in October.  
 

 The number of applications for a labour market impact assessment (LMIA), a federal government document that most businesses must receive before they can hire a foreign worker, has declined by 58 per cent from April to September this year compared to the same period in 2024.  The number of LMIA applications between April and September declined to 37,029 from 87,167 a year ago. 

 Canada has taken an important step toward modernizing its citizenship laws. Bill C-3 has received royal assent, ensuring Canadians affected by outdated rules have a fair way to pass citizenship on to their children born or adopted abroad.   The bill will come into effect at a later date, which will be shared publicly. Until then, the temporary measure remains in place for people affected by the first-generation limit
